There should be a way to report those posts and have them changed. That would make browsing AutoTrader infinitely more pleasant. Furthermore, I’m curious who they think they’re fooling, because it means that they know that people will look at their car more then have hundreds of people be dissatisfied and leave the posting in anger.

On the flip side, this means that there are also cars listed as autos that have manuals.

I think it’s usually accidental, and it happens the other way too. My Miata is a manual but was listed as automatic. I met the 68 year old semi-retired man who took the photos and handled the online listings, and it kind of made sense.

My latest pet peeve: people who post to for sale groups on Facebook without indicating where the hell they live. It’s a big world, people.
But, yeah, don’t screw up the transmission type. Doug tackled that issue 5 years ago.

There is a way to report them. Just scroll to the
bottom for the line that says
“suspect fraud? Report it”

There definitely are. AutoTrader is riddled with basic errors like that - the more criteria you try to put in your search to filter results, the more cars that you actually want get dropped out, due to incorrect data entry.

Yup. Advertising it as something it isn’t is fraudulent.

Don’t use the list of Craig much up here. I usually report K ijiji “manual” ads as “miscategorized”. Ditto on all those morons listing their 2000's minivans as classic cars.

When automated clutch transmissions first came out, they were classified as “automated manuals” for a while in a lot of literature, but now manufacturers are no longer calling them that anymore, even dual-clutch transmissions, they simple call them automatics.
A lot of them are mistakes or inattentive car salesman posting them, but on occasion they will purposely post an automatic as a manual on certain performance cars to get clicks and hope you get interested.
